“From September 7-22, 2024, with financial support from HarSval, I had the opportunity to participate in a scientific expedition organized by the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The aim of the research was to search for sources of methane emissions in the southern part of Spitsbergen. As part of the fieldwork, we took water samples from Arctic lakes near Hornsund and installed an Eddy Covariance measurement station on the Fuglebergsletta Plain to monitor carbon dioxide, water vapor and methane emissions.
Participation in this expedition allowed me to gain a practical understanding of the realities of field work in polar regions, as well as experience in teamwork in demanding polar conditions. I also had the opportunity to prepare samples for further analysis in the laboratory, and to participate in the installation of a measuring station that will enable ongoing analysis of changes in emissions of selected greenhouse gases.”
