“Inspired by the growing impact of artificial intelligence on various fields of life, particularly law, I decided to deepen my knowledge in this area. With financial support from the HarSval project, I had the opportunity to participate in a nine-week online course “AI University Foundations,” which was conducted by the Oxford LawTech Education Programme, University of Oxford. This educational program, managed by Oxford University Innovation, is aimed at professionals working in law or related fields who deal with legal issues related to the development and implementation of AI.
The “AI University Foundations” course provided me with a solid foundation in the technical, legal, and ethical issues related to AI. The program covered a wide range of topics. Starting from the basic concepts of computer science, the course progressed to complex legal regulations such as the AI Act, as well as fundamental principles of digital ethics. Course participants, including myself, had the opportunity to learn about “ethics methods” and the main trends in this field.
A significant advantage of the “AI University Foundations” course was its interactive format. In addition to over 5.5 hours of video lecture material, participants had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussions with instructors during 4.5 hours of live sessions. These sessions, covering topics related to the individual course modules, were led by experts such as Professor Tom Melham, a specialist in computer science, Professor Rebecca Williams, an expert in public and criminal law, and Dr. Vaclav Janecek, a lecturer at the University of Bristol Law School. This combination of teaching formats allowed me not only to deepen my theoretical knowledge but also to develop practical skills and critical thinking.
Participating in the “AI University Foundations” course proved to be an extremely valuable experience for me. I expanded my knowledge of artificial intelligence and its impact on the field of law and gained a deeper understanding of the complexities of legal regulations and ethical aspects of AI development and implementation. The connections made with other AI professionals and the confidence gained in discussing AI are additional benefits derived from participating in this course. I am convinced that the knowledge and skills acquired will be extremely useful in my further professional career.”
