The Harsval project includes also strengthening the mobility of scientists between Polish and Norwegian entities. The outcome will be the integration of the Polish and Norwegian scientific communities, increased cohesion through increased competence and skills, and the creation of new international scientific initiatives based on Polish-Norwegian consortia to solve complex research challenges.
More information about the mobility programme you can found in WP2.
We received a report about the internship at the NORSAR from Dr. Wojciech Gajek (Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences).
Dr. Wojciech Gajek conducts seismicity studies of glaciers. In recent years, he has successfully recorded seismic data using Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) technology from the Hans glacier in the southern Spitsbergen region. With DAS technology, ground vibrations are measured by analyzing reflected light inside an optical fiber, and it was the 9 km of optical fiber installed on the Hansbreen that was the seismic sensor. Dr. Wojciech Gajek, together with scientists from NORSAR (pictured from left: Dr. Wojciech Gajek (IGF PAN), Dr. Andreas Köhler, Dr. Alan Baird) during a visit to Kjeller, Norway, conducted research on the development of methods for processing data recorded by DAS technology to improve the quality of monitoring of glacier dynamics.
