“Arctic Frontiers is an international conference that focuses on key Arctic challenges in a global context. This year’s edition, themed “Beyond Borders,” took place in Tromsø, Norway, from January 27th to 30th, 2025, and gathered over 1,200 participants from 34 countries, including scientists, policymakers, industry representatives, and Indigenous community leaders.
The event offered a space to discuss the future of the Arctic as a key area for global climate action and sustainable development. The program included scientific sessions, panel discussions, and workshops centered around seven main themes, from the development of cutting-edge technologies in light of the energy transition to the impacts of geopolitics on Arctic communities, metal toxicity and the environmental impacts of war. The conference emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the inclusion of local communities, including Indigenous Peoples, in decision-making processes.
I participated in the interdisciplinary poster session where I presented my poster titled “Microeukaryotes on the Snow Patch in Central Spitsbergen,” showcasing results of the research conducted during the BioGeoEko 2024 course. The diverse and rich program of the event allowed me to participate in various sessions and workshops, all of which contributed to expanding my perspective on the region, its international landscape, and the challenges coming with its governance, as well as providing insight on the latest advancements in Arctic science.”
