“Funding from the HarSval initiative enabled me to attend The Summer School in Manuscript Studies course organized by the Árnie Magnússon Institute in Reykjavík. It focused primarily on introducing the basics of paleography and codicology, using Icelandic manuscripts. As a linguist, I worked with already transcribed medieval texts. A significant part of the course was dedicated to learning how to decode and transcribe original manuscripts, which allowed me to enhance my knowledge in this field. During the workshop, I had the opportunity to study several both medieval and post-medieval manuscripts from collections shared, kindly provided by the Árnie Magnússon Institute. This included not only the above-mentioned transcription, but also work on illuminations and codicology – that is, the study of manuscripts, including their formation, history and fate. The workshop and the entire course were supervised by a team of specialists, who excellently fulfilled their task, conducting interesting classes and comprehensively answering questions.”
