The Harsval project includes also strengthening the mobility of scientists between Polish and Norwegian entities. The outcome will be the integration of the Polish and Norwegian scientific communities, increased cohesion through increased competence and skills, and the creation of new international scientific initiatives based on Polish-Norwegian consortia to solve complex research challenges.
More information about the mobility programme you can found in WP2.

We received a report about the internship at the Svalbard Integrated Arctic Earth System (SIOS) from MSc Katarzyna Stachniak (Institute of Earth Sciences, University of Silesia in Katowice).

“From August 26th to September 15th, I participated in a scientific internship at the Svalbard Integrated Arctic Earth System (SIOS) in Longyearbyen to strengthen cooperation within the scope of my membership of the Research Infrastructure Coordination Committee (RICC), the representation of the newly developed Logistics and Research Centre in Svalbard “BERA” (BERA Centre) and to establish cooperation within this infrastructure with SIOS.
The BERA Centre (‘bera’ in old Scandinavian means ‘bear’) is a new infrastructure that has developed as a result of years of efforts by the Polish polar community to bring the logistical and scientific research activities based on Longyearbyen to a higher standard.
The main objectives of the BERA Centre’s activities are 1 – logistical and storage support for scientific polar expeditions, national and international research groups doing fieldwork on Spitsbergen, 2 – support for environmental monitoring and research activities based on the Centre’s equipment infrastructure, 3 – support for education and networking by providing space for scientific workshops and professional meetings.
As part of the meetings with SIOS Director Heikki Lihavainen and Observation Network Infrastructure Specialist Eleanor Jones, the cooperation of the BERA Centre and potential opportunities offered by the Centre to the international community of SIOS member institutions were discussed, among others, the possibility of logistical support, access to storage facilities, space and infrastructure resources of the BERA Centre facility. Information on opportunities to use the Bera Centre facilities will appear on the SIOS website with the possibility to apply for their use.”
